Our first priority at the Floreano Convention Center is the health and well-being of our guests, partners, vendors, staff and community. The responsibility to provide a safe space for people to gather and celebrate is not something we take lightly.
NYS recently announced the lifting of many of the restrictions we have adhered to over the past 16 months, and these guidelines and those of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the Monroe County Health Department, will be carefully incorporated into the Floreano Convention Center recovery planning. Our sales and event staff have already begun to work diligently with our clients to find solutions and dates for potential events this coming fall, as well as fielding new booking inquiries for even shorter-term events.

Frequently Asked Questions:
When do you envision opening for events?
We look forward to opening our doors as soon as safely possible. We do not currently have an official opening date and are taking the latest direction from the New York State Governors Office and incorporating that into our recovery strategy.
How different will my event set up look with the updated guidelines?
We will be following all guidelines and best practices provided by the CDC, New York State, and local health officials; but certain details will be left to us - the event partners - to plan together. With the recent updates and lessening of restrictions, we initially foresee a much more traditional room set up and capacities. However, we will take each event on a case-by-case basis, as all have their own unique set of circumstances and requirements. Depending on the restrictions in place, our event team will work with you to find creative solutions that ensure your program runs smoothly and complies with all current health and safety measures.
What are you doing to prepare for reopening?
The Floreano Convention Center has been working with local and national industry partners to make sure we are prepared to safely welcome guests back through our doors. As we start our recovery planning for events and gatherings, we want you to know that we will continue to take any and all appropriate measures to provide a clean and safe space for you to host your event. Below are just a few of the new procedures that will be in place upon reopening. Please keep in mind that these will continue to evolve based on the current guidelines:
Sanitization of all utilized event space, equipment, and common areas prior to your event
High-touch points will be a constant focus of sanitization efforts (i.e. door handles, stair railings, escalators, elevator buttons, and restrooms)
Signage will be posted reflecting NYS and CDC regulations and best practices
Food service standards will be updated to reflect current trends and protocols, including green and sustainability initiatives that provide for a more conscious responsible environment.
Our HVAC systems have been equipped with MERV 14 cartridge air filters, and are programmed to fully replenish fresh air into the building to prevent the spread of airborne pathogens.
Launched in February 2018, ROC the Riverway is an initiative that features more than two dozen development projects along the Genesee River to leverage the value of Rochester’s riverfront. We’re excited to share some of the projects that have directly influenced and improved the Floreano Convention Center.
RIVERSIDE TERRACE RENOVATION - Renovations to the North Terrace (2019) improved public access to the terrace from Main Street, replaced deteriorated structural support, added waterproofing, river railings, new benches, lighting, and a tinted concrete patio. The second phase of the project will expand the Floreano Convention Center’s southwest side facing the river to create a dynamic venue space that directly engages with the downtown riverfront, and will extend the south terrace outward to create a riverfront promenade and outdoor space with the potential for future connections between Main Street and Broad Street.
UPDATED PARTITION WALLS – Replacement of the movable partition walls in the Highland Ballroom was completed in early 2021. The new walls are a lighter, modern color, allow us to provide more room configurations, and will improve soundproofing between rooms.
ESCALATOR REPLACEMENT – The buildings ten original escalators are currently being replaced. The escalators that serve as transportation to and from the South Avenue Parking Garage and the skyway to the Hyatt Regency Rochester have been replaced with stairs, and new escalators will be installed throughout the facility.
OUTDOOR LED LIGHTING - Exterior LED lighting has improved the building’s nighttime visibility in the City skyline. The new lighting program gives us the ability to light the building a specific color for an event or initiative. If you would like to make a lighting request, visit www.lightsonroc.com.
INDOOR LED LIGHTING – Installation of upgraded LED lighting in the Empire Hall allowed us to achieve an energy reduction of 70% by going from 300 fixtures down to 60. The lights can be easily controlled from your Event Coordinators cell phone to create unique, customized lighting for your next event.
